Al-'Alaq 96:3

As narrated from Aisha in Bukhari and Muslim, revelation first came to the Prophet in the form of true dreams; then solitude was made dear to him and he would retreat for worship in the cave of Hira. One Ramadan the angel came and said, "Read!" When he answered, "I cannot read," the angel seized and pressed him three times, then brought the verses beginning: "Read in the name of your Lord who created; He created man from a clinging clot." The Prophet returned home with his heart trembling and said, "Wrap me up, wrap me up." Khadija comforted him and took him to her cousin Waraqa ibn Nawfal, who said that what had come to him was the Namus (the angel of revelation) who had come to Moses, and wished he could live to the day his people would drive him out.

The first five verses of Surah al-Alaq are the first revelation of the Quran; as related from Aisha in Bukhari and Muslim, they inaugurated the prophetic mission in the cave of Hira with the address 'Recite in the name of your Lord who created'. The remaining verses are reported to have come down later, concerning the man who tried to prevent a servant (the Prophet) from praying; reports identify him as Abu Jahl.
