وَلَا تَطْرُدِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِ وَٱلْعَشِىِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَهُۥ مَا عَلَيْكَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ وَمَا مِنْ حِسَابِكَ عَلَيْهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ فَتَطْرُدَهُمْ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
And do not send away those who call upon their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His countenance. Not upon you is anything of their account and not upon them is anything of your account. So were you to send them away, you would [then] be of the wrongdoers.
The demand to send away the poor believers
52As narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas in Muslim, six men were with the Prophet, among them Sa'd himself, Ibn Mas'ud and Bilal. The leading men of Quraysh implied that they would not attend his gatherings unless these poor, lowly-regarded believers were sent away. Thereupon the verse was revealed: "Do not drive away those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His face."

Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideAl-An'am is Meccan, dated to the late Meccan period; classical reports state that most of it was revealed all at once. It mounts a sustained defense of monotheism against the polytheistic beliefs, idolatrous customs and objections to revelation raised by the Meccan pagans.
