وَإِذْ يَمْكُرُ بِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيُثْبِتُوكَ أَوْ يَقْتُلُوكَ أَوْ يُخْرِجُوكَ وَيَمْكُرُونَ وَيَمْكُرُ ٱللَّهُ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرُ ٱلْمَٰكِرِينَ
And [remember, O Muhammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.
The plot at Dar al-Nadwa
30This verse recalls the meeting just before the hijra at which the polytheists of Mecca gathered in Dar al-Nadwa and debated imprisoning, killing or expelling the Prophet. According to the reports, they adopted a joint assassination plan in which a young man from every clan would take part; but the Prophet, informed by Allah, left Ali in his bed that night and emigrated to Medina with Abu Bakr. The verse records this: “When the disbelievers plotted against you to confine you, kill you or drive you out — they plotted, and Allah planned, and Allah is the best of planners.”

Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideAl-Anfal is Medinan, with most of it revealed in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Badr (2 AH). It settles the dispute over the distribution of the spoils, interprets the course of the battle in the light of divine assistance, and lays down principles concerning the conduct of war.
