8:9

[Remember] when you asked help of your Lord, and He answered you, "Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another."

Context

The promise of a thousand angels at Badr

9

As narrated from Umar in Muslim, on the day of Badr the Prophet, seeing that the polytheists numbered a thousand while his Companions were three hundred and nineteen, faced the qibla, stretched out his hands and pleaded, “O Allah, fulfill what You promised me; if this band perishes, You will not be worshipped on earth.” He continued until his cloak fell from his shoulders, and Abu Bakr said, “O Messenger of Allah, this is enough; Allah will surely fulfill His promise to you.” Thereupon the verse was revealed: “When you sought help from your Lord and He answered you: I will reinforce you with a thousand angels, rank upon rank.”
