وَمَا هَٰذِهِ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَآ إِلَّا لَهْوٌ وَلَعِبٌ وَإِنَّ ٱلدَّارَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ لَهِىَ ٱلْحَيَوَانُ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ ٦٤

And this worldly life is not but diversion and amusement. And indeed, the home of the Hereafter - that is the [eternal] life, if only they knew.

Al-Ankabut is Meccan, dated to the late Meccan period, though some held its opening verses to be Medinan. In a climate of intensifying persecution it declares that faith will be tested through trials; some reports connect these verses with the hardships preceding the emigration to Abyssinia.
