لِّيَغْفِرَ لَكَ ٱللَّهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِن ذَنۢبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ وَيُتِمَّ نِعْمَتَهُۥ عَلَيْكَ وَيَهْدِيَكَ صِرَٰطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا
That Allah may forgive for you what preceded of your sin and what will follow and complete His favor upon you and guide you to a straight path
The tidings of victory on the return from Hudaybiyya
1–5According to the reports, the opening of Surat al-Fath was revealed on the road back to Medina from the Treaty of Hudaybiyya in the sixth year of the hijra. While some Companions were grieved at returning without performing umra and at the treaty's terms, the verse “Indeed We have granted you a clear victory” declared the treaty a great triumph. As narrated in Bukhari, the Prophet said, “Tonight a sura has been revealed to me that is dearer to me than all that the sun rises upon.” Indeed, in the period after the treaty Islam spread rapidly, and two years later Mecca was conquered.

Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideAl-Fath is Medinan; sound reports establish that it was revealed on the return journey to Medina after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah (6 AH). It declares the treaty, which had seemed a setback, to be 'a manifest victory', and commemorates the Pledge of Ridwan under the tree while promising victories to come.
