وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ
And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.

Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideAl-Hijr is Meccan, dated to the middle-to-late Meccan period. It consoles the Prophet in an atmosphere of intensifying mockery and denial; the verse 'Proclaim openly what you are commanded' is associated with the phase of public preaching, and the surah affirms that the Quran is under divine protection.
