Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideSurah an-Nas is the second of the 'Mu'awwidhatayn', revealed together with Surah al-Falaq; its place of revelation is likewise disputed, with views transmitted for both Meccan and Medinan origin. Those who count it Medinan take the reports of the sorcery worked against the Prophet as the common occasion of both surahs. The surah teaches taking refuge in the Lord, the King, and the God of mankind against the evil of the retreating whisperer, of jinn and of men, who whispers into hearts.
