Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideSurah an-Nasr is Medinan and among the very last surahs revealed; it is related from Ibn Abbas that it was the last surah to come down as a whole. It relates to the conquest of Mecca (8 AH) and the setting in which people entered Islam in throngs; according to the prevailing view it was revealed around the time of the Farewell Pilgrimage. As related in Bukhari, Ibn Abbas and Umar understood the surah as a sign that the Prophet's death was drawing near.
