Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideSurah at-Tin is Meccan, held to belong to the early Meccan period. Swearing by the fig, the olive, Mount Sinai, and the secure city of Mecca, it declares that man was created in the finest form (ahsan taqwim), yet whoever remains devoid of faith and righteous deeds falls to the lowest of the low. In this frame it addresses the Meccan polytheists who denied the Day of Judgment with the question 'Is not God the most just of judges?'.
