Juz 27 · Page 525

Context

Revelation context of the surah

Surah-wide

At-Tur is Meccan, dated to the early-to-middle Meccan period. It dismantles the pagans' claims that the Prophet was a poet, soothsayer or madman through a sequence of challenging questions. Bukhari records that Jubayr ibn Mut'im, before his conversion, heard the Prophet recite this surah at the sunset prayer and was profoundly moved.
