Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideThe place of revelation of Surah az-Zalzala is disputed; many scholars held it Medinan, while others found its style Meccan. The surah announces that on the Last Day the earth will be violently shaken and cast out its burdens, and people will come forth to be shown their deeds. Declaring that an atom's weight of good and of evil will each be requited, it warns, according to reports, those who regarded small deeds as insignificant.
