وَنَادَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ فِى قَوْمِهِۦ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ أَلَيْسَ لِى مُلْكُ مِصْرَ وَهَٰذِهِ ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِىٓ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ
And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see?
Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideAz-Zukhruf is Meccan, dated to the late Meccan period. It answers pagan objections such as regarding the angels as female beings and asking why the Quran was not sent to one of the great men of the two towns; it stresses that worldly ornament (zukhruf) is no measure of worth with God.
