Az-Zumar 39:22

Juz 23 · Page 461

So is one whose breast Allah has expanded to [accept] Islam and he is upon a light from his Lord [like one whose heart rejects it]? Then woe to those whose hearts are hardened against the remembrance of Allah. Those are in manifest error.

Context

Revelation context of the surah

Surah-wide

Az-Zumar is Meccan, dated to the late Meccan period. It rejects polytheism on the axis of devoting religion sincerely to God alone. According to reports, the verse 'God's earth is spacious' is associated with the believers compelled by persecution to emigrate, namely those who went to Abyssinia.
