فَلَا تَكُ فِى مِرْيَةٍ مِّمَّا يَعْبُدُ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَا يَعْبُدُونَ إِلَّا كَمَا يَعْبُدُ ءَابَآؤُهُم مِّن قَبْلُ وَإِنَّا لَمُوَفُّوهُمْ نَصِيبَهُمْ غَيْرَ مَنقُوصٍ
So do not be in doubt, [O Muhammad], as to what these [polytheists] are worshipping. They worship not except as their fathers worshipped before. And indeed, We will give them their share undiminished.
Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideHud is Meccan, and according to the predominant view it was revealed in the difficult late Meccan years following the boycott and the 'year of sorrow'. Through the stories of the prophets it develops the theme of steadfastness and remaining upright as commanded; the Prophet is reported to have said, 'Hud and its like have made me grow old.'
