وَلِلَّهِ غَيْبُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ يُرْجَعُ ٱلْأَمْرُ كُلُّهُۥ فَٱعْبُدْهُ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَيْهِ وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِغَٰفِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ ١٢٣

And to Allah belong the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth and to Him will be returned the matter, all of it, so worship Him and rely upon Him. And your Lord is not unaware of that which you do.

Revelation context of the surah

Surah-wide

Hud is Meccan, and according to the predominant view it was revealed in the difficult late Meccan years following the boycott and the 'year of sorrow'. Through the stories of the prophets it develops the theme of steadfastness and remaining upright as commanded; the Prophet is reported to have said, 'Hud and its like have made me grow old.'
