Quraysh 106:2

Juz 30 · Page 602

إِۦلَٰفِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيْفِ ٢

Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer -

Context

The trade journeys of Quraysh

Surah-wide

The surah refers to the customary trade journeys of Quraysh: to Yemen in winter and to Syria in summer. Regarded as the custodians of the Kaaba, the Quraysh were respected among the Arab tribes and could travel in safety. The surah reminds them that the true source of this security and livelihood is "the Lord of this House (the Kaaba)," calling Quraysh to worship God, who fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear. Commentators have seen the surah as thematically linked with Surah al-Fil.
