The Quraysh delegation visits Abu Talib
1–7As narrated from Ibn Abbas in Tirmidhi, when Abu Talib fell ill, the leading men of Quraysh, Abu Jahl among them, came to him complaining that his nephew kept speaking against their gods. The Prophet called them to a single phrase by which they would rule over the Arabs: "There is no god but God." At this they rose and dispersed, saying, "Has he made the gods into one god? This is indeed an astounding thing!" The opening verses of Surah Sad were revealed concerning this event.

Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideSad is Meccan, dated to the middle Meccan period. According to reports it was revealed in the context of the Quraysh leaders' complaint to Abu Talib about the Prophet and their indignant reaction, 'Has he made the gods into one God?' Through the stories of David, Solomon and Job it counsels the Prophet to patience.
