Al-'Asr 103:2

Surah al-Asr is Meccan, held to belong to the early Meccan period. Swearing by time, it declares that mankind is truly in loss, excepting only those who believe, do righteous deeds, and counsel one another to truth and to patience. Despite its brevity the surah summarizes Islam's path of salvation, offering a fundamental criterion to a Meccan society sunk in denial and heedlessness.
