إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ
Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.

Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideSurah al-Asr is Meccan, held to belong to the early Meccan period. Swearing by time, it declares that mankind is truly in loss, excepting only those who believe, do righteous deeds, and counsel one another to truth and to patience. Despite its brevity the surah summarizes Islam's path of salvation, offering a fundamental criterion to a Meccan society sunk in denial and heedlessness.
