وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?

Revelation context of the surah
Surah-wideAl-Waqi'ah is Meccan, dated to the early-to-middle Meccan period. It declares the inevitable coming of the Great Event and the division of humanity into three classes on that day, addressing a Meccan society confident in this world and dismissive of the hereafter with proofs drawn from creation.
